Evan has been working as a trailer welder since last year and has enrolled in Level 2 / Level 3 Engineering Academy programme. His course runs for two days a week, which allows Evan to spend the rest of his time welding at Nugent; developing his skills and applying the theory from the course.
Read on to find out how Evan has found the Nugent experience so far.
What attracted you to Nugent in the first place?
It was my brother who joined Nugent first when I was still quite new to welding. He told me about his experience here and that it would be a great opportunity for me too to gain valuable work experience. So that convinced me to join and become a welder.
Give me a bit of insight into your role
In a normal week, we would aim to complete two trailers a week. This involves welding trailer parts according to the technical engineering drawings. There is a lot of fabricating between the trailer headboard and the ramps.
What do you like most about working here?
The main thing I like about my job is that it’s very hands-on work. I’m also getting to learn a lot; new skills and increasing my knowledge. There is something new to learn every day.
Do you have any advice for someone considering this role as a career?
For anyone thinking of taking up this kind of work, it is an excellent opportunity. Not only will you gain valuable skills, but you will also meet lots of new people along the way who are great to work alongside.
What do you get up to in your spare time?
In my spare time, I like to produce music. I enjoy driving cars, motorbikes and scramblers. Other times I would play a lot of Xbox.
