Jane McGrade is a Level 5 Higher Level Apprentice studying Manufacturing and Engineering. Jane’s current role with Nugent is Apprentice Production Engineer, and daily duties include planning and coordinating production processes to maximise output.
Why did you choose to study an apprenticeship and what advice would you give to someone considering this route?
I chose an apprenticeship route as it meant I got to live at home whilst studying at the same time. Being able to leave with a degree and work experience whilst, having no debt was big thing for me.
What do you like most about working here?
I love the homely feel of Nugent. Everyone knows one another and you will always geta smile or chat from whoever you meet around the yard.
How did you find out about apprenticeship opportunities at Nugent?
I was interested in apprenticeships and messaged Nugent Careers social media page to find out more. I then met the Nugent HR team at a GET Engineering day in March 2022 at SWC.
What made you choose Nugent?
My agricultural background influenced me into choosing Nugent as they are a family run business and the agricultural and trailer products interested me. When I first spoke with HR, they were very friendly and more than happy to answer any questions I had.
What do you enjoy most about the role?
I enjoy engaging with different people throughout my day. My role is very hands on and I’m constantly involved with members of the team ensuring standards are met. I enjoy the responsibility that comes with my role and how I am treated as a permanent member of staff, not an apprentice.
