We spent some time with Marcela, General Purpose Trailer/Utility Trailer Fitter , to learn about how she has progressed throughout her time at Nugent. Keep reading to find out about the different types of opportunities that she has had the chance to experience so far.
Tell us about your time at Nugent
Having joined Nugent in July, I hadn’t worked with trailer assembly before, so it was a new and exciting opportunity for me to learn more about how a trailer is built.
My husband also works at Nugent and encouraged me to find out about the opportunities available. I’ve had the chance to expand my role into different areas. I started working at Nugent as a lighting operative and progressed onto General Purpose & Utility Fitter. In trailer assembly I have been fitting parts within a few different areas so far; Utility, Flatbed, and General Purpose trailers. I am currently focused mainly on Utility trailers. There are many different tools and equipment such as drills, saws and the overhead crane which I can operate. It’s great being able to see the trailer assembled from start to finish.
What do you like most about working here?
I come into work every day ready to learn and get the job done, knowing that I am working on rewarding projects. New challenges keep the week interesting, so this role keeps me busy. I have been able to take part in further training to advance my skills.
Also, being the only woman in my area on the trailer assembly floor, it’s exciting to have this opportunity within a typically male dominant industry. Over time I hope to get involved in other areas too.
The team I work with all get along well together, it’s a friendly group of people.
Do you have any advice for someone considering this role as a career?
I enjoy working with a range of equipment, products and there are various training opportunities available.
If you like a challenge and are hard-working, check out what Nugent is offering.
What do you get up to in your spare time?
I have an active social life outside of work, and I enjoy taking my son swimming in our spare time. Typically, we would have done more travelling, but Covid changed that lately.
