Apprenticeships at Nugent: no two journeys are the same
Apprenticeships at Nugent encompass an extensive range of engineering topics to suit a variety of interests and levels of study.
What Nugent can offer
Apprenticeship programs at Nugent are structured in a way that allows apprentices to learn and develop their skills, while further progressing in areas where their strengths and interests lie. These journeys are guided with the invaluable support of Nugent’s in-house mentors and Human Resource team.
No apprenticeship journey at Nugent is the same
Nugent’s newly appointed Production Planner, Emma Conlon, began her journey there as an apprentice. Not to be discouraged that there were no vacancies at that time, her ambition to get her foot in the door to the world of Engineering was too strong to dismiss. Only in her second year of a Higher Level Apprenticeship with South West College, Emma has already progressed within the company to her new role, demonstrating an impressive level of organisation and structure, which made her the perfect fit for production planning.
Dara McCracken, now in his third year of an apprenticeship, has also welcomed the opportunity to diversify, progressing through a range of roles in his time with Nugent. Experiencing hands on fitting, programming and nesting, Dara has now progressed to product design. Although undecided of which Engineering role he will specialise in, Dara is enjoying the diversity for now, building a CV of experience that not many in the early stages of their career could match!
While glowing testimonials from their apprentices are the ultimate approval for Nugent, the company’s apprenticeships were further endorsed by winning the Manufacturing Apprenticeship & Training Scheme Award at the recent Made in NI Awards.
As one of the driving members of MEGA (Mid Ulster Engineering Growth & Advancement) and establishing the MEGA Apprenticeship Degree alongside Ulster University, Nugent acknowledges that the traditional university route is still a valid option of course, but the combination of learning in tandem with hands-on experience in a working environment, accelerates the progression of the apprentice, which ultimately benefits both the business and the apprentice themselves.
The future is bright for ambitious, quality apprentices and for the industries in which they thrive.
