We’re celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March 2022.
Hear from some of the Nugent female staff about their roles and how they enjoy working in engineering.
Marcela is a Fitter within Nugent’s Assembly department.
“I like to challenge myself in my role, regardless of the type of work. I work as a Fitter on the General Purpose/Utility trailer line which was typically male-dominated before I joined. It is always good to try something new and that’s why I enjoy developing my skills at Nugent.”
Lauryn, Nugent Apprentice Production & Design Engineer, joined the company recently and is enjoying the work so far.
“I have recently joined Nugent, every day in Nugent is a learning curve from previously having worked within a structural steel-based company. I enjoy my role as you get the best of both worlds from designing the products on solidworks to seeing them being produced in person.
Engineering is an exciting industry to work in and is always evolving. Whilst it is currently a male-dominated profession, it shouldn’t deter women from contemplating a career in the field.”
Hannah has progressed from starting at Nugent in an apprenticeship program to becoming a fully fledged Nugent Production Engineer.
“I am the Production Engineer for the Assembly area. This involves optimising performance within the Commercial and Livestock lines and working closely with dispatch to ensure the customer is getting their delivery on time. My day-to-day operations involve making sure there is an adequate supply of material to each assembly line. This requires communication between each of the departments around the site, from the Welding department and Cutting department as well as our Procurement team; ensuring that material is readily available to keep production running smoothly.
Every day I collaborate with key people in the business, from directors and managers, production supervisors, and the purchasing team; to resolve any production issues and update them on progress of targets and KPIs.
The work place thrives on diversity and balance. Being a women in a male dominated sector is an achievement and drives me to be the best I can be. Companies thrive off the talent, skills, and ambition that women bring to the team. Now is the time for engineering to take a break from tradition and make room for new innovation with a female work force.”
